ALRIGHT ALL YOU HETALIA OC MAKERS OUT THERE LISTEN

(NOTE: I'm not gonna finish the last note I began writing because, frankly... I dunno. I just don't want to. Anyway... LISTEN UP!)

LISTEN UP IF YOU HAVE MADE AN OC FOR HETALIA!
I've got some favors to ask.

1)PLEASE GOT TAKE A MARY SUE TEST FOR YOUR CHARACTER. Please. Seriously. I've run into a lot of Sues, though I'm glad to also find non-sues. So, seriously. GO FREAKING TAKE A MARY-SUE TEST RIGHT NOW.

2) WHEN DRAWING YOUR CHARACTER: I don't care if you're a crappy illustrator or not, PUT EFFORT INTO IT! Seriously, I've found some OC's on facebook that are so badly drawn I didn't even know it was a person, and the admin was all like "oh i just didn't want to work too long on it". I mentally slapped this person!

3) WHEN DESIGNING YOUR HETALIA CHARACTER (part one): I have found some OC's for other countries that have completely western (Americanized) names. Once I even found a Mongolia with the name "Robert Stevens". The page is gone now, but seriously! WHAT THE HECK!? Anyway...

4) WHEN DESINGING YOUR HETALIA CHARACTER (part two): If you have noticed, all the canon Hetalia characters in existence have specialized clothing. This is either a military uniform for the country, a traditional outfit from said country, or something people from country may wear often or have worn in the past.

Examples of this include:
England, Japan, Germany, Italy, China, Bulgaria, Canada, Poland, Prussia, Switzerland Spain, Romano, the Nordics, the Baltics, etc - these characters wear military uniforms, and it's fairly obvious that they do. (Is France in a military uniform? I haven't taken the time to look.)

Austria, Hungary, Belarus, Ukraine, Belgium, Chibitalia, Chibiromano, etc. - these characters wear traditional outfits and/or outfits from the past. EX: Austria in his long coat and fluffy scarf thing, Hungary in her dress (which she also dresses Italy in),  Belgium in her dress, etc.

America wears, over his military uniform, an airforce-looking-jacket with the star on it. Russia has a long coat and scarf because it's cold, and also has a soviet medal.

You should at least TRY to look up traditional and/or military clothing for the country you're designing. (NOTE: If your OC is a state for America or another country, this may not apply to you. Unless you have an Alaska with an Inuit (aka Eskimo, in case some of you are confused (and/or ignorant) parka, or a Texas with a cowboy/girl outfit, or a previosuly-confederate state with a confederate outfit on.)

So SERIOUSLY. I was looking at other Slovakia OCs and one was wearing completely American clothing. Again with the Robert Stevens Mongolia thing. My friend and I have given at least an attempt with our OCs.

I'm part Cherokee, so I've learned about my heritage, so I knew I had to give a Cherokee name like "Ahyoka Sixkiller" to her and she had to be wearing Native American clothing (though it looks semi-white-manish clothing because the Cherokees tried to embrace the white man's culture to become accepted. Long story.)

My OC for Slovakia at least HAS a Slovakian name and is wears traditional Slovakian kroje. (That's the right term for it, I hope. I think kroj is singular, and kroje is plural, right? I dunno.)

My OC for Oklahoma has the last name Bonnefoy-Jones BECAUSE America was given the Oklahoma territory in the Louisiana Purchase, from FRANCE. Her name is Alva because that's a small town in OK, but I won't criticize you if you don't have a state OC named after a small town. She wears American clothing.

5) LET'S GET REAL HERE, PEOPLE. I've seen OC's for Antarctica, the Atlantic Ocean, the Baltic Sea, all sorts of bodies of water. I can see Antarctica maybe wearing a parka because it's SUPER FREAKING COLD and/or a lab coat because the only people there are scientists. But the oceans? No. Sorry to be hatin, guys, but having an OC for an ocean/river/bay/lake/stream/sea/gulf/strait/whateverotherbodyofwater isn't exactly... plausible. There are no people who live in the ocean, so how would you create a personality for an ocean? Decide the name? Choose a wardrobe? Sigh.

Anyway, that's all.

So, seriously. I've said that a lot. I say "seriously" a lot. I seriously need to think of a new word. Seriously. Anyway, yeah. Take into account the heritage and history of a country/region before making a Hetalia character for it.
